Delhis Little Kolkata decks up for Durga Puja

Zealous  Bengalis gear up to adore and offer obeisance to goddess Durga and in this ardent tradition they are joined by thousands off residents of the city in this ‘mini-Kolkata’ for a taste of Bengal.  Dhak beats and dhunuchi dance fill the air with a touch of divinity.  This year puja organisers in Chittaranjan Park have decided on eco-friendly themes.  Also Read – ‘Playing Jojo was emotionally exhausting’This year the idols embellished with aluminum aushtro will be swapped for synthetic paints and biodegradable materials. Attempts are being made to convert to LED bulbs. Some Puja committees have decided  to do away with the ritual of immersing idols into Yamuna.  C.R.Park’s B block has decided upon construction of a 4 feet deep tank on the puja ground itself for the ritual of Bisarjan. Tamal Rakshit, an organiser, says, “A crane will be commissioned to immerse the goddess into water. After immersion, the area will be sealed as the pavitra area’.  Also Read – Leslie doing new comedy special with Netflix“When the idol has wholly dissolved, the remaining bamboo will be returned back to the artisans for re-use and the muddy water will be used as compost in the park. As per tradition that the very mud the idol is sculpted from should go back to the land where it came from. We attempt to be traditional with a difference.” The ancient mandir-themed venue and sumptuous food stalls will no doubt pull in the crowds.In these three days time bhog is prepared for around 1500 people here. Navapalli Durga Puja Samity will showcase the time- honoured ‘Bengal patoa art’. The president, Utpal Ghosh said, “these art pieces have been prepared by young college students under the able guidance of Madhu Chiktrakar and his wife, who have replicated the ten forms of Maa Durga and Krishna on the mandap.” D block ground has been converted into ‘interior Bengal gram’. The pandal will also offer free wifi to the visitors by making it a wifi-zone. Initiatives are being made   Sujoy Ghosh, the general secretary, also informed that bhog will be sent by the pujo samity to the homes of senior citizens living in the colony.last_img
