Join the Personal Finance group for a 90-minute webinar on September 25 that will focus on the impact our behavior has on our finances. Dr. Lois Vitt will present Behavioral Economics at 11 a.m. ET.The web conference, “Ferryboat Captains and the Case for Behavioral Strategies in Teaching Financial Decision-Making,” will give conference participants tools that can help their clients and other learners—and couples—make more self-enhancing spending, saving and investing decisions. Using research from behavioral finance, Dr. Lois Vitt identifies and contrasts the social factors that shape and influence everyone’s financial behaviors and choices. In contexts unique to military service members and their families, she examines the concept of feeling “entitled” to spend money, to buy unaffordable items, and act out over money issues despite knowing better. She also tackles the psychology of guilt in its many guises that interferes with clear-headed decision-making. Guilty feelings can trigger reactionary financial decisions that sabotage even the best personal relationships and spoil chances for building one’s future financial security. She introduces webinar participants to ideas and resources that can help calm already anxiety-producing situations of deployment, homecoming, and beyond.Lois A.
